Let’s move Colorado forward, Together.

Meet Chris Floyd, the Democrat running for Colorado House District 13

Chris Floyd is a lifelong public servant, accomplished attorney, and dedicated community advocate running to represent Colorado House District 13.

With decades of legal and civic experience, Chris brings a unique blend of toughness, compassion, and pragmatic leadership to the table—qualities shaped by a childhood marked by foster care, housing insecurity, and economic hardship. Raised by a single mother and separated from her sisters at an early age, Chris developed a deep sense of resilience and determination that has driven her to uplift others and fight for fairness at every stage of her life.

Chris has spent her legal career serving both individuals and communities—first as a litigator, then as in-house counsel for larger companies, and ultimately founding her own law firm to offer affordable services to small businesses and nonprofits after realizing how hard it was to come by good legal advice for local businesses.

After moving to Leadville to fulfill a lifelong dream of living in Colorado’s mountains, she opened Rocky Mountain General Counsel and continued her service by taking on pro bono work for local organizations, helping to strengthen the economic and civic life of Lake County.

Chris was a judge who believes in restorative justice and building community.

In 2020, Chris was appointed as the first woman to serve as Leadville’s Presiding Municipal Judge, where she led with a restorative justice approach that prioritized solutions over punishment. In 2021, she was appointed as Lake County Attorney, where she has helped streamline government processes, protect taxpayer dollars, and ensure legal integrity across county operations.

Her deep community involvement extends well beyond the courtroom. Chris currently serves as President of Planned Pethood Leadville, a nonprofit focused on providing affordable veterinary care to local families. She has also supported regional economic development, education programs, animal rescue organizations, and historic preservation efforts—proving time and again that public service is not just a career for her, but a calling.

Grounded in honesty and driven by a lifelong belief that everyone deserves dignity and opportunity, Chris Floyd is ready to roll up her sleeves and get to work for House District 13. She’s not a career politician—she’s a neighbor, a public servant, and a problem-solver.

Chris has the experience and focus to help Colorado be a more sustainable, affordable place to call home

Chris is running for State House to be a strong voice for the Western Slope and Colorado’s mountain communities. She understands the urgency of our housing crisis, the rising cost of living, and the need for strong public education, healthcare access, and environmental protection. Her priorities reflect the everyday concerns of families, workers, and small business owners—from expanding rural broadband and job training to protecting clean water and preserving the unique character of our mountain towns.
